The Princess and the Goblin

Irene is a pretty princess, but her childhood is boringly uneventful. Her father the king, spends his time doing kingly things. Unknown to the court, a band of goblins is digging a tunnel beneath the palace! They want to kidnap the princess and marry her to their ugly, stupid young son, Harley. Coming to Irene's rescue is a young miner, Curdie, and - of course -- romance is in the air. Children of all ages will identify with the characters in this play based on the novel by George MacDonald.

Fiddler On The Roof

In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye, a poor dairyman tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic details, Fiddler on the Roof has touched audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. Its universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.

Jack and the Giant

A comic version of a classic story, introducing us to a very human and stagestruck cow, Drusilla, who doesn't mind being sold by the poverty-stricken Jack if her new owner will place her in a show. The plot follows the story of Jack selling Drusilla for a bag of beans. His mother throws them out the window, where they shoot to the sky and the giant's castle. In Jack's bare escape from the Giant, Drusilla saves the day by coming home just in time to chew the vine down and destroy the Giant.

Picnic

Winner of the 1953 Pulitzer Prize and the Critics Circle award. The play takes place on Labor Day weekend in the joint back yards of two middle-aged widows. The one house belongs to Flo Owens, who lives there with her two maturing daughters, Madge and Millie, and a boarder who is a spinster school teacher. The other house belongs to Helen Potts, who lives with her elderly and invalid mother. Into this female atmosphere comes a young man named Hal Carter, whose animal vitality seriously upsets the entire group. Hal is a most interesting character, a child of parents who ignored him, self-conscious of his failings and his position behind the eight ball. Flo is sensitively wary of temptations for her daughters. Madge, bored with being only a beauty, sacrifices her chances for a wealthy marriage for the excitement Hal promises. Her sister Millie, finds her balance for the first time through the stranger's brief attention. And the spinster is stirred to make an issue out of the dangling courtship that has brightened her life in a dreary minor way.

2002 performances: Sat 8/10 8:00 PM, Wed 8/14 2:00 PM

Hallelujah Hopscotch

The charming play is a contemporary fairy tale that successfully blends fantasy and reality and introduces a delightful new American character into dramatic literature for children. Hally, a nonconformist fairy, is abandoned in a backyard where she must adjust to the ways of human children, who in turn experience the delights of creative imagination at work.

See How They Run!

So swift is the action, so involved the situations, so rib-tickling that plot in this London hit that at its finish audiences are left as exhausted from laughter as though they had run a foot race. Galloping in and out of the four doors of an English vicarage are an American actor and actress (he is now stationed with the air force in England), a cockney maid who has seen too many American movies, an old maid who "touches alcohol for the first time in her life," four men in clergyman suits presenting the problem of which is which, for disguisded as one is an escaped prisoner, and a sedate Bishop aghast at all these goings on and the trumped-up stories they tell him! The House of Frankenstein

Produced in London in 1989. Baron Victor Von Frankenstein, bored with his attempts to give life to the lifeless, has turned his attention to curing the supposedly incurable!
