Open Auditions for Johnny Appleseed Children’s Theatre Plays
Auditions for productions at Apple Hill Playhouse’s Johnny Appleseed Children's Theater will take place on Saturday May 10 from 10-3:30. Actors 8-12 years old will be seen from 10-12; teens through adult from 12:30 – 3:30. Actors auditioning for a musical must be prepared with 32 bars of an up-tempo Broadway tune and provide sheet music. Plays will be auditioned with cold readings. The 2007 JACT season includes: Aladdin, A Winnie-the-Pooh Birthday Tail, Cinderella, and The Elves and the Shoemaker. Plays are performed at 11 AM Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Rehearsals begin four weeks before the show opens.

ALADDIN - THE MUSICAL Tentative Read thru date: May 12th Tentative schedule: 4pm-6pm, 3 to 4 days a week (not everyone is called to every rehearsal) MANDATORY TECHNICAL REHEARSAL: Monday, June 16 from 9am-3pm Vocal Range: Low F to High A- Play does NOT include the Disney score. Age Range of Actors: preferably 12 and up
COMPANY 5 Males, 2 Females MAGRABI: The villian. An evil magician capable of hypnotism. Wants the Lamp more than anything. ALADDIN'S MOTHER: Boisterous, but gullible. She is poor widow who wants her only son to be successful. LANDLORD: Owns the hovel Aladdin and his mother live in. He is grumpy and often ridicules Aladdin's Mother (Also plays the Sultan.) ALADDIN: A witty young man. The “Chosen One” who is destined to have the Lamp. He has big dreams of becoming something better than the life that he currently knows. GENIE OF THE LAMP: Genie who emerges from the Lamp to help Aladdin. He is large and has an infectious personality. (Also is the voice of the Genie of the Ring.) PRINCESS JASMINE: The princess and love interest of Aladdin. She is graceful and thoughtful. She does everything in her power to persuade her father into liking Aladdin. SULTAN: The ruler of the kingdom and father to Princess Jasmine. He is kind and understanding, but also gullible (Also plays the Landlord.) Performances: 11 AM June 17,19,20, 24,26,27
CINDERELLA (Director – Tina Lepidi-Stewart) This is the classic rags to riches tale of the overworked stepdaughter turned princess. One addition to the usual characters is a jester who serves as an entertaining narrator. Age range of actors : 12 -99
COMPANY STEPMOTHER –the typical evil stepmother who spoils her own children, but overworks Cinderella. OLDER AND YOUNGER SISTERS – two girls who can play off each other well to create humor. THE JESTER – a physically comedic actor – prefer male to balance cast. FAIRY GODMOTHER – a flighty woman who works transformations. TWO FOOTMEN – can be younger boys of similar age/height. A WINNIE THE POOH BIRTHDAY TAIL (Director – Meghan Ginley) This is a MUSICAL. It’s Eeyore’s birthday, and he has lost his tail! Thankfully, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Christopher Robin and other friends of 100 Aker Woods are there to help him find it in time for his birthday party. Full of fun, catchy songs, and big excitement – this play shows the importance of caring, sharing, and friendship. Age range of actors: 8-18 Tentative read thru date: June 2 at 1PM Tentative rehearsals: Monday- Thursday 1-3PM. (Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal.) Vocal Range – Low G to High F/A COMPANY WINNIE-THE-POOH: loveable yellow bear, a “bear of very little brain,” who always craves “hunny” and cares very much about his friends and their feelings and happiness. PIGLET: a small, soft-spoken, and skittish little pig who is very generous and humble. He can be quirky and stutter sometimes because he is always nervous, but always concerned for his friends. EEYORE: everyone’s favorite old, gray and gloomy donkey who is intelligent and quiet. He loves when his friends remember his birthday, and his pink bow on his tail represents the bit of happiness that resides inside him. TIGGER: exuberant and one-of-a-kind, Tigger is famous for his springy tail and boisterous personality. He has an utter zest for life and is always eager to share his joy with his friends. RABBIT: perhaps the smartest of all his friends, he is the self-appointed leader of the group and loves organizing and “important” things. He sometimes overreacts, but under the bristly exterior he has a good heart. OWL: eloquent speaker, wisest of his friends, who loves to share stories with anyone who will listen. KANGA: a proud mother kangaroo, fastest animal in the wood, who loves to talk about Roo to anyone who will listen. CHRISTOPHER ROBIN: a young boy with a big imagination, a friend to all in 100 Aker Wood. He loves helping his friends with their problems and hosting birthday parties outside his house. Performances: 11 AM July 8, 10, 11; 15, 17, 18
THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER (Director-Jon Baird)
This show takes place on the edge of Fairy Tale Forest. It's about a poor shoemaker and his wife who discover two lost elves in their shop. The two elves make good quality shoes for the shoemaker, so the shoemaker keeps them working to make more money for the rent. They meet different characters throughout the play they all live happily ever after.

COMPANY
GIACOMO: A poor, kind shoemaker who tries to make enough money to pay the rent
NOEL: The shoemaker's wife, who loves pies and loves her husband very much
GRETCHEN: The landlord's daughter, a snobby teenager
FREDDIE: A frustrated dancer who tries to find a dance partner and good dancing shoes
SARAH: A flat-footed ballerina who wishes she can dance
BROWN ELF: A little elf
GREEN ELF: A little elf
STORY TELLER: Very small role with a few lines
Performances: August 5,7,8,12,14,15 at 11 a.m.
